Alicia Canales is a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Gerontology from Arizona State University, and a Master of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Forensics from Grand Canyon University.
Her professional experience includes working with children with developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, and cerebral palsy, within an educational setting. She has also served the senior population and places significant value on their life experience and insight.
Her career has been dedicated to working within behavioral health clinics, providing services to both children and adults. Her experience encompasses Behavioral Health Evaluations, birth-to-five evaluations, and evaluations for individuals with severe mental illness (SMI). She has worked for the Regional Behavioral Health Authority across multiple counties in Arizona, in detention facilities, and in hospital settings.
She has received training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Exposure Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (including Mindfulness), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Existential Therapy (ET), and Sand Tray Therapy. Her primary area of expertise is working with children and adults experiencing anxiety disorders. She is currently engaged in crisis intervention. She adheres to a holistic approach, emphasizing the treatment of both mind and body, and is a strong advocate for integrated healthcare.
